Itinerary

  • Upon landing in Guatemala City, you'll be escorted to a hotel known for its exceptional service and historical charm. After settling in, we'll gather for a sunset drink and a welcome dinner to get to know your fellow travelers and set the tone for the week ahead.

  • The day starts with breakfast at the hotel, after which we will head to Topis Ceramics. There, we will attend a workshop led by artist Lilyan Benecke, who will teach us the Riga technique and guide you in creating your very own piece.

    After lunch we'll walk to central square and visit the National Museum (MUNAG) for a guided tour.

    Finish the evening exploring the city of Antigua at your own pace.

  • A day for adventure begins with an early hotel breakfast before we embark on a day trip from Antigua to Lake Atitlán, often described as the most beautiful lake in the world. Surrounded by villages where artisans are experts in textiles and ceramics, Lake Atitlán is a treasure trove of culture and beauty. A guided boat tour will take you through picturesque pueblos, showcasing the stunning views and vibrant colors of the region.

    After a traditional lunch and day filled with exploration and natural beauty, relax and recharge for the next day's adventures.

  • After a recharging breakfast, we’ll visit Museo del Cerro, nestled within the mountains. Here, you will dive deep into the local history and cultural heritage through carefully curated exhibits. Lunch will be at El Tenedor del Cerro, where you can enjoy stunning views.

    Afterwards, you’ll have some free time to explore the city on your own.

    In the evening, we’ll experience the Café del Ron tasting room. This venue offers a chance to learn about the history of Ron de Guatemala, making it a must-stop for travelers. Guatemalans are proud rum makers, and this experience will give you a unique insight into their craft

  • On our last day together, we'll explore a private estate-turned-museum that houses the world's largest collection of Guatemalan art.

    At noon, we’ll enjoy a guided tour of the Antigua Cerveza brewery.

    Afterwards, we’ll enjoy a guided tour focused in the arquitecture and history of Antigua and conclude our journey with a farewell celebration at beer garden “El Bosque”. Enjoy live music, celebrate the new friendships and memories made, and toast to an incredible journey.

Travel Details

  • Our curated trip begins at 6 pm on Wednesday October 25th in Antigua, Guatemala. Private transportation is included from Aurora Airport in Guatemala City to hotel in Antigua.

    We encourage travelers to aim for an arrival no later than 3pm. This should allow you time to settle in ahead of any welcome activities.

    The trip comes to a close on Wednesday, October 30th after our goodbye breakfast. If travelers are continuing on to explore more of the country, we can help with travel suggestions. If they are returning to the Aurora Airport, private transportation is included.

    A detailed itinerary will be provided the day you arrive.

  • Solo travelers will be assigned to a private suite for a total trip price of $2,850

    Travelers who are booking in pairs will be assigned to shared room with a king bed for a total trip price of $4,850.

    Bookings can be paid in three payments. There is a $850 non-refundable deposit required to reserve your space.

    Last payments must be made no later than October 20th, 2024

  • Monterroso does not handle or purchase flights and is unable to make changes to traveler itineraries before and after the scheduled trip dates. That said, we wil be responsible for all details of your itinerary the moment you land in Guatemala, starting with a private pick up at the airport.

    The drive from La Aurora Airport to Antigua is approximately 1.5 hours.

  • Absolutely! If you're a more adventurous traveler who likes to personalize your trip, we provide blocks of free time so you can explore the destination your way. We understand that everyone is different, so we'll ensure you are equipped with a curated list of our favorite places to explore, shop, and eat.

  • We encourage our travelers to add on a few days before or after the trip to experience more of the region. Please let us know if you plan to extend your adventures and we can offer some suggestions of activities or places to stay that won’t be on our itinerary

  • Guatemala is often called "the land of eternal spring," meaning mornings and evenings can be cool while daytime temperatures can get quite warm, ranging from the mid-60s to the low 80s (°F). September is the rainy season, so you might experience some sprinkles in August. Overall, the weather is pleasant. We recommend layering your clothing to adjust to the varying temperatures throughout the day

  • While we don't officially endorse specific companies, we do have some recommendations based on our positive experiences. For travel insurance, we suggest Assist Card USA, which has received good reviews from fellow travelers. For airlines, we recommend United Airlines, which offers direct flights to Guatemala. The sooner you book your flight, the cheaper it tends to be. There's a convenient direct flight that arrives at 1:40 PM and takes approximately 2.5 hours.
